If you are anything like me when I started on the journey that is Veganism. You are silently or maybe not so silently thinking to yourself “The F@#$ do I do with tofu?”. There is actually a lot you can do with tofu. You can pan fry it, marinate it then bake it, stir fry it, use it to make ricotta “cheese”, add it to smoothies, and so so much more. One…well two of the things that will help to make it palatable are garlic powder and onion powder! If you cook it just right those two plus salt and pepper can have that bland brick on it’s way to imitating chicken.
Nutritional yeast it not as nasty as it sounds. I know I know the “yeast” bit through me off to. But those golden little flakes are creamy and cheesy! They elevate a nice vegan “cream” sauce beautifully without loading on the Dayia or Dayia’s extra calories. My favorite is to sprinkle it onto my vegan buttered popcorn with some salt and chili powder. Movie night dreams are made of cheese! HA! Sorry had to.
Liquid smoke is a strange one I agree and a little really goes a long way. Add a drop or two of this to your marinade and people with think twice before they jump to conclusions about your protobello “steaks”. Or any other BBQ inspired foods. I like to add a drop to my vegetable stock gravy to help up my poutine game.
Canned coconut milk sounds like something you save for a rainy day and I wish mine lasted that long. When you let the can sit without being shaken the cream sets on the top. Scoop the cream off and use it to thicken and add a creamy depth you won’t find in a carton to soups, sauces, dips, desserts, and so much more.
